My daughter has been taking classes here for 7 years. She has loved many of her teachers especially Teacher John. The Art School has been flexible and allowed her to try different art mediums and has helped develop her love for art and she is continuing this at her high school. Her decision to pursue art in college is in part due to the last 7 years spent at Art School of SF Bay. We would highly recommend this school.

I can't sing enough praises to Maria Zhalnina and her art school, Art School of SF Bay.

I hired her students to do two commissions for me; a design for a handfasting cake and a graphic for a t-shirt.

Maria's students had a keen understanding of what I, as a client, was looking for in the projects I commissioned. These young people are talented, creative, and hard-working.

If you want to support young artists, hire students from the Art School of SF Bay.

My daughter is progressing under the tutelage of teacher John. She enjoys, and looks forward to her Friday art classes. I cannot recommend the school and especially John enough. John is patient and very knowledgeable.

The online manga class on Fridays has been an amazing experience for my teenager. They started the class when they were 12 and now one year later, their manga skills have been honed tremendously, and they’ve had a wonderful community of support and encouragement around their work. John is an excellent mentor, offering helpful instruction, valuable feedback, and loads of support for my intense kiddo. I highly recommend this class and the Art School of San Francisco Bay in general.

My child really enjoys this class as it allows her to use her creativity to develop story telling in her drawing. The format is great, and it allows for her to be able to feel comfortable in the class. If there is feedback for her to improve her art and what to work on for "homework" for the next class then there is a good continuation for her to work on something consistently. Just little reminders for the younger kids like mine.

I take the watercolor 101 online course and it is good! I learned basic watercolor concept and did still life paintings and portrait. I enjoy the class very much.

My kids have been taking online classes for over a year now with John DePianto, and he is marvelous — very talented, patient, and kind. His classes are creative and zen, and the mediums vary: painting, drawing, and clay, and the kids get to learn about different cultural approaches to art. My kids love it.

My daughter has been taking a weekly online class (the advanced teen class) with John as the teacher, and I really can't say enough about how great it is. She LOVES the format, because it's casual and the students take turns showing their work and getting helpful feedback from the instructor. There is freedom, so she can work on whatever projects interest her. Her work has improved significantly in terms of perspective, shading, etc. Whenever I've popped into her room to give her a snack or check on her, John is giving specific critique/suggestions using a positive and encouraging tone. It's not a high-pressure class, but it is serious, in that the students are working the entire time and not just chatting. My daughter always looks forward to the class, so for us that's a huge win.
